Maple Leaf Mulch Compost

Maple leaves make the best garden soil and is recycling at its finest.

Gene dumped my son’s maple leaves on the vegetable garden bed yesterday.

My son used to pay to have these leaves taken away from his suburban home in Wyoming, MI. Instead he now rakes them into large paper bags (which are reused from year to year). We now haul them to our home in our truck and put them either in the giant compost pile (last year) or this year directly into the veggie garden. By spring, they will be mostly broken down and will then be dug into the soil to make light airy soil to grow our vegetables in.

Looking forward to fresh picked kale and green beans come summer!
