I just got word today that my White Oak Design Studio has been accepted in the 2013 Art & Eats event. This means that my hand-painted furniture and my studio will be on the promoted tour taking place on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20, 2013.

I sent in my application in early February and I have already been hard at work all spring getting the grounds, gardens, studio building and furniture ready for this event!

Dear Artists,

I would like to invite you to participate in the Arts and Eats Tour, a rural back roads tour of cultural and culinary treasures in southwest Michigan. This self-driving tour will take place Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013. The Arts & Eats Tour will feature artist studios, central art venues, eateries serving local food, and farms growing local foods and fiber.

The Arts and Eats Tour will engage folks in local culture by showcasing artists at local venues where visitors may enjoy a weekend of art and food. The tour will focus on encouraging entrepreneurship through the arts and local foods communities, while allowing participants to discover what artist entrepreneurs have to offer in rural Michigan. We are currently seeking artists, galleries and studios to be featured during the Arts and Eats tour.

We hope you will take a look at the enclosed information, go to to learn more, and consider being a part of this year’s second Arts and Eats venture to promote southwest Michigan artists, local food and the rural entrepreneurial spirit.

Don’t delay. Applications must be received by May 31. Please feel free to pass along this information to others and to contact me with any questions.

Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon.

  1. Congratulations!

    • Thanks Kathy! I just realized I was fairly naïve….I had already started to work on our grounds and studio building. I had “assumed” I’d get in and only today when the acceptance letter came, did I realize I might not have been accepted after all. Too funny!

  2. Hurray! I’m sure everyone who visits will appreciate the thoughtfulness and creativity that you and your husband have worked for at your “small house.”
