Floating Ghostie Tutorial

I made these sweet little ghostie decorations for our October studio open house. The tulle, an almost transparent fabric, is the secret behind these apparitions, which sways in the slightest breeze.

Time: 1 hour

Cost: About $30.00

We bought black balloons, 9 yards of white tulle (3 yards per ghost) and created these simple as pie floating ghosties.

I went to Fields Fabrics and asked them for three separate piece of tulle, cut into 3 yds. each. That meant I didn’t even have to cut the tulle myself!

We made these with our four-year-old granddaughter and she was able to help open the tulle, stuff in the balloons and carry the finished product to the tree and hand us the fish line (2 to 3 yds. per ghost).

1)      Blow up the balloons, tie off.

2)      Open the folded tulle piece up in half and center the balloon “head” in the center of fabric.

3)      If you choose you can draw eyes, nose and mouth on your balloons.

4)      Tie a fish line around the base of the balloon creating a head.

5)      Tie the ghostie to a tree branch with a line of fish line.

6)      If you like, you can tie a separate section up to make “arms.”

We choose to hang our ghosties low in a pine tree, three to a tree for maximum effect.
